  Best old school supermarket around. Great selection of food. Friendly service with little touches like helping older folks with their bags. If I lived closer this would be my only choice.

  This supermarket had a fantastic selection, with an emphasis on European foods. Keep an eye out for treasures like Cuca canned fish and canned confit duck legs.

  I adore this place. There's always something crazy going on - whether a screaming match in the carpark or a nutter playing duck-duck-goose with the root veg. I love the old school Italian vibe. They have a huge and eclectic variety of items, including an almost absurd number of herbal teas to choose from. Wonderful fresh cakes in the bakery, and a good selection of organic fruits and vegetables. Super convenient to have the liquor store and newsagents in the same place. The coffee in the cafe up top is great too, always good service with a smile (and for a while they were giving away free donuts!) Their selection of fresh flowers is great, and bunches are well priced.

  Since moving in to the area, I have shopped exclusively at Piedimontes. I wanted to support local, and for me it's flaws really only added to it's charm. I have experienced out of date and mouldy dip, mouldy tomatoes and strawberries, consistently out of date jam which stays on the shelf (my partner checks every time we are in there) and, the ultimate indignity, weevils in some almond meal which infected our whole pantry. I haven't complained and have cheerily continued to shop there in spite of this, the high prices and the hit and miss service. Unfortunately now my dilemma is, whilst the shop is still close, they are threatening to take that goodwill and expense that have come their way as an independent supermarket, and permanently alter the Fitzroy North streetscape. This is to the detriment of everyone (especially when surrounded by single storey, heritage workers cottages) and it makes me incredibly sad. Please try and stay a part of the fabric of life here, and we will continue to be forgiving regarding some of the issues outlined above!

  Clearly one of Melbourne's greatest independent supermarkets. Great range, lots of stock and a cracking little bottle as well.
